Respectable

She poured a jar of ointment

Broken on his feet:

Such intimate, extravagant,

Excessive means to greet.

This uninvited guest displays

Her unattractive past:

Loose hair, indecent mess,

Breaker of the fast.

            And I, so respectable,

            Respectable and free,

            Must loosen much more than my hair:

            Time

            Truth

            Your love with mine to meet.

            Myself

            Broken

            Poured beneath your feet

I’ll leave behind the middle way

And walk to you alone

I’ll disregard the fear that they’ll

Despise the love I show.

I’ll face the truth and throw away

The many masks I wear:

And I’ll wash your feet with my hair.

And I, so respectable,

            Respectable and free,

            Must loosen much more than my hair:

            Time

            Truth

            Your love with mine to meet.

            Myself

            Broken

            Poured beneath your feet

And I, so respectable,

Full of propriety

Must free so much more

Than my hair …….
